About Rick Tracy

Rick’s 3 key achievements

  • Breaking the entire test environment of a global bank back office on day 4 as a tester.
  • Coordinating the refresh of every interconnected test environment at a major retail chain simultaneously (38 teams, 17 production-like test environments)
  • Developing great relationships with developers so they could show me how they wanted the system to work.

Fun Fact: Rick has twin sons who are the inspiration for this talk.

Speech title:

Reemerge & Test Like a Baby

About his speech:

Learning how to learn isn’t something we talk about often, but it is vital not just to our personal growth but to our professional growth as well, especially as testers. Learning is what we do; figuring out how it all fits together, impacts other items, and the value or risk that brings is our bread and butter. Left unexamined, we leave a lot of our skills “dormant” that have been with us for a long time, and that just seems like a waste to me.
Who is it for? Testers who want to go to the next level of testing, be they beginners, mediors, or experts. Also for those who might be interested in learning why testing is so interesting, and why we think the way we do. What will I learn from it? You can use the tactics learned in this workshop on any system, any program, and any organization. It’s the core development of your craft, and hopefully you take this back to your team and help them build it up as well.

  • Curiosity drives perception
  • You don’t need fancy software to sharpen your skills
  • Test learning tools are everywhere
    •
