Automation in Testing Readiness ......... & Dragons

Half-Day Workshop I November 13 I 9 AM – 12 PM

Description

Based on his talk “Forget Shift Left and Shift Right! Let’s Shift Back”, presented on stages at Accelerate, TAPOST, SeeTEST, Test Automation Days, Targeting Quality and of course EuroSTAR, René has created a game.

Synopsis:
AutomationInTestingReady land is divided into four proud kingdoms, each representing one of the four aspects from the Readiness approach (Technical, Organizational, Testing and Preconditions). Within each kingdom there is turmoil surrounding the important questions that need to be answered to achieve passage to the Tool Selection Tournament and the Tool Implementation Fair. The eight Stakeholder Knights show themselves as the champions of the four kingdoms and will do battle in order to get the answers to those imperative questions and save the day.

After a quick introduction on AutomationInTestingReady land and the four Aspect Kingdoms, we will have a very interactive session with cards, questions and board pieces to seek out the necessary answers to achieve Readiness. But beware of the dragons……….

Who should attend?

Anyone in Testing, experience with Automation in Testing is not essential.

What You Will Gain from the Workshop

  • Attendees will have become familiar with all the questions (and answers) from the Automation in Testing Readiness approach;
  • Attendees now know who the main stakeholders are in getting ready for Automation in Testing;
  • Attendees will have learned to understand the perspectives from those stakeholders;
  • Attendees will have realized that starting with Automation in Testing is a serious thing but can also be fun!

Why Attend?

Gamification strengthens the learning curve. Armed with the questions across all four aspects the attendees will be able to assess the readiness of any automation in testing effort; and/or in retrospect they will be able to verify where questions still need to be answered on active automation in testing efforts; and think like and/or understand how other stakeholders participate in automation in testing efforts.

For this game I have created maps, stakeholder cards and question cards, all meant to enhance the discussion among the attendees and for these products a professional cartoonist aided me with the creative process.

Attendees will take the roles of the Stakeholders, based on their knowledge of the roles (maybe some even have experience in these roles) and they also blindly draw cards in order to become a AiT Knight or a Dragon who tries to sabotage the Readiness efforts. We shift in several rounds, so all the attendees address all the four aspects and get a chance to fulfill different roles and become a knight or a dragon.

About the Speaker

René van Veldhuijzen, aka Testimist, firmly believes that the Test profession is the best within IT. As a Test Specialist he helps his customers with their need for a grip on the quality of the processes and products. Next to that he wants to learn from his peers, and pass any knowledge he has on Testing, Automation in Testing and other skills to the community. René has been active as a Test Specialist since 1998. With various non-Testing roles such as Academy Coach, Business Manager and Oracle Alliance Manager, his passion has always remained Software Testing, from politically sensitive projects in Test Management roles to creating Test scripts using Test Automation. René calls himself a Test Positivo, combining ubiquitous testing principles with Test Automation and Robotic Process Automation into integrated automation solutions for customers.

Talking about Testing and Test Automation has brought René on stage at venues like Accelerate (Tricentis in Vienna), SeeTest (Bucharest), Test Automation Days (Rotterdam), Testing United (Bratislava), EuroSTAR (Copenhagen and Edinburgh), TestCon (Vilnius), Targeting Quality (Canada) and as a keynote at TAPOST (Riga).

As the Testimist, René is the propagator of the Fun Driven Testing methodology, which is reflected in his work and presentations. As organizer of the conference TestMass, René found a positive way to spread knowledge about Testing. As board member of the Dutch TestNet Association, he makes a modest contribution to a healthy Testing climate.
